Alwyn’s Information Paradox

Information is abundant. It’s excessive.

You agree?

Good.

But, we crave information. We are addicted to it.

Here’s a new paradox I have been running into.

We all want more information. It is almost as if information is the cure to our problems.

We read a little. Read. And, read more.
We watch a little. Watch. And, watch more.

After all that, we still go asking our friends for their thoughts. Then, we call our parents and ask for their.

Not only do we seek validation. That’s its own thing. But, we are craving information.

As if information is the solution to our problems.

Hint: it’s probably not. We need action.

I am unproductive – let me watch productivity videos.
I don’t know how to sell – let me read about sales.
I am unhappy – let me read about happiness.

The most ironic being the last one.

It’s absurd. Yet, we all do it. Myself totally included. I’ve done all 3 😉

But, by definition, we crave things because we are deprived of them.

We want more.

I want free time. Why? You don’t have enough.
I want sweet food. Why? You didn’t eat enough sugar.
I want to go out. Why? You didn’t engage in enough high dopamine activities.
Etc.

So, if we are constantly plugged into an information source (the internet), why do we have an endless craving for more?

Worse yet. If that source of information is the source of our anxiety, why crave more?

Bottom-line? Information is a silent killer. Know too little, get replaced. Know too much, get trampled.
